The Poodle and The Hen is an award-winning, hobby poultry farm on the outskirts of the Southern Highlands in NSW, Australia. As passionate chicken enthusiasts, we hatch both backyard chooks and exhibition champs year-round. We also build custom chicken coops, pens, and runs, and offer our own high-quality chicken feed to keep your flock happy and healthy.

Chicken Coops
Owners, Trevor and Dayna, are both licensed builders and run building company Tredam Builders along with the farm. With their combined building and poultry expertise, they specialise in constructing chicken coops, pens and runs, along with barns and other animal shelters.
Chicken Feed
Together, with a poultry scientist, we have worked to develop The Poodle and The Hen speciality chicken feed. Our non-medicated, high protein feed has premium vitamins and minerals added to support the overall health of growing chicks and laying hens.

From us first showing Trevor our old pre-fab coop (it was only 12 months old) that was falling to bits, I knew that asking Poodle & Hen to build us a coop that would last, be safe for our chooks, look good and be a robust structural, would be delivered. I cannot say how grateful we are to poodle & hen for making us snd our chooks the loveliest coop. Poodle snd hen were easy to deal with. Nothing was a drama. We couldn’t recommend them highly enough. I would suggest anyone thinking of getting a coop, invest a bit more money in a solid coop that will last. Don’t buy the plywood version that will not withstand weather. We wasted quite a lot of money getting a bad coop, had to get it built snd it was rubbish materials.
Trevor nailed our brief by creating an accessible chicken coop ensuring that every child in our inclusive schools is able to access each part of the chicken coop. The position of overall design of the space allows for the chickens to be part of our school community for our students to enjoy and learn from.
It’s sweet smelling, contains high quality ingredients with no compromise and it’s nutritionally balanced, our girls have thrived on the chick starter (from a week old) and advanced to the layer/breeder (from 16 weeks of age). The girls absolutely love it, as soon as they’re let out of the coop in the mornings, they’re straight into it! Their enthusiasm each morning, speaks volumes! They started laying from about week 20 (late Jan) and have been consistently laying for us to this day (we’re now the last week of June!) We couldn’t be happier with the development of our girls or with the range of feeds produced by The Poodle & the Hen. Highly recommend! From the very first enquiry the team from poodle and the hen were very responsive. Trev came out when he said he would, and apart from a little rain, everything ran smoothly!
