About Us

We specialise in chicken coop builds, premium chook feed and breeding

Dayna & Trevor Tougher, owners of The Poodle and The Hen

The Poodle and The Hen is an award winning, hobby poultry farm located on the outskirts of the Southern Highlands in NSW, Australia.

We specialise in Standard White Leghorn and Light Sussex, building custom chicken coops and selling our own mix of premium poultry feed.

Owners, Trevor and Dayna, have a love of poultry, especially chickens.

Trevor has kept poultry his entire life with chooks being in his family for four generations. His parents were instrumental in his early love and passion for chooks, introducing him to them at a very young age. They also provided continuous support for his passion by taking him to local poultry shows, buying him birds and helping him feed and house them.

Trevor is now an experienced breeder and exhibitor, who concentrates on standard white Leghorns and Light Sussex chickens.

Award Winning Breeding

Here at The Poodle and The Hen we take a lot of pride in breeding and strive to raise the very best Sussex and Leghorn chickens possible.

Trevor has put a tremendous amount of time and effort into developing the chickens into what they are today, having had both Leghorns and Sussex for well over 20 years.

We show birds regularly and have achieved fantastic success in doing so.

Beyond chickens, we also keep waterfowl, including Pekin and Muscovy ducks, geese, peacocks, cows, sheep, goats and livestock guardian dogs. We also have a Toy Poodle, Parris, who is no doubt the farm favourite and is very spoilt.

Dayna’s biggest joy is her love of cooking, especially with produce from the farm. Nurturing her own veggie garden and orchard, she is a standout in the kitchen and cooks up delicious farm to fork meals, keeping Trev a very happy farmer.

Parris the poodle from The Poodle and The Hen

The name, The Poodle and The Hen, came about after Trevor and Dayna bought the property in 2015.

At the time they were supplying farm fresh eggs to fine dining restaurants in Wollongong and of course had their beautiful poodle Parris.

When Dayna’s sister Lucy first visited the farm, she came up with The Poodle and The Hen. Both Trevor and Dayna thought it fitted perfectly and the rest is history.
