Meet the People Behind the Farm

It's Always Been About the Birds

As a boy, Trev used to take his chooks to school for show and tell every chance he got. The year two class even had an excursion to his house just to see the chooks. School wasn't really his thing, but put a book about chickens in front of him and he'd read every word. His uncle kept every issue of Australasian Poultry Magazine. He borrowed them, wore them out, and eventually inherited the collection.

That's where this started. Not with a business plan or a brand. With a kid who was completely, hopelessly in love with chickens.

Poultry runs four generations in our family. For us, it's always been about the birds themselves. The personalities. The beauty of a well-bred bird. The way a Standard White Leghorn rooster carries himself: big comb, big tail, big attitude, crowing like he owns the place. Light Sussex are something else entirely: that snow-white body, the black hackle markings at the neck, the black tail. Standing next to one at six years old, they seemed enormous. They still stop us in our tracks.

At nine, a family friend invited Trev along to a local show. From that point on, he was gone.

Parris the poodle from The Poodle and The Hen

We didn't come into this together from the start. Dayna grew up without animals, and her first visit to the farm felt like walking into a zoo. When we found our acreage in the Southern Highlands in 2015 and built the farm together, something shifted. It became shared. Parris, our much-loved Toy Poodle, came with us and gave the farm its name.

Good mentors helped shape the direction. Barry Sharpe gave us the foundation with Leghorns. Uncle Warren in Majors Creek had Sussex, and one afternoon our mum looked at them and said "why don't you get some of these, they're beautiful." We didn't need much convincing.

Years later, we spent hours persuading a reluctant breeder to part with a Leghorn cockerel, eventually producing a rather significant amount of cash to seal the deal. We named him The King. He won the Australian Leghorn Show in 2017, spent five years as our main brood cock, and the best birds we've raised since trace back to him.

Everything else grew from the same place. When we care that much about birds, we start caring about everything around them: what they eat, where they sleep, how much room they have to move. We weren't happy with the feed on the market, so we made our own. We knew how to build properly, so we built housing that actually worked for the birds, not just around them. None of it was planned. It just made sense.

That same feeling is what we get watching a family get their first flock right, or seeing someone fall properly in love with chickens the way we did. It never gets old. We've been lucky enough to have people share their knowledge with us along the way. Good mentors, generous breeders, a community that gave us more than we expected. Giving that back is just part of it. We sponsor juniors at shows and we're always happy to talk chooks with anyone who asks.

We're not done yet. Every season the birds get better, and the program gets sharper. Australian poultry breeding is worth taking seriously, and we intend to keep proving it.

  • Quality Poultry For Every Keeper

The birds are what started all of this, and they're still at the heart of everything we do.

Our exhibition breeding program centres on Light Sussex and Standard White Leghorn chickens, two breeds we raise to the Australian Poultry Standards with more than 20 years of focused work and dozens of champions behind them.

For backyard keepers, our range includes Australorp, Rhode Island Red, Plymouth Rock, Silkie, Light Sussex, and Standard White Leghorn. We also raise Pekin and Muscovy ducks and Emden and Toulouse geese.

We raise every bird to the same standard of care, whatever its purpose.

  • Chicken Coops Built to Last

When you care that much about birds, you start caring about where they live. We design and build every coop on-site. As licensed builders, we engineer each structure properly. Not prefabricated, not shipped from a factory. Built to last. It's the only way we know how.

Our range includes compact coops for smaller spaces through to larger walk-in and luxury coops, plus custom breeding pens, animal shelters, and school builds.

We build within the Southern Highlands and surrounding regions, from Southern Sydney and the Blue Mountains all the way down to Canberra. If you're not in our service area please get in touch to discuss possible solutions.

  • Poultry Feed & Supplies

The feed came from the same place everything else did, we weren't satisfied with what was on the market, so we made our own.

Working with a poultry scientist, we developed blends to support every stage of a bird's life, from day-old chicks through to laying hens and breeders. No compromise on ingredients.

Alongside the feed, we stock a range of poultry supplies to keep your flock healthy and your setup running well.

  • For Exhibition Breeders

You'll get honest, straight talk about the birds we have and what they're worth. If a bird is exhibition quality, we'll say so and tell you why. If it isn't, we'll say that too. We've been in the ring long enough to know the difference, and we won't waste your time.

  • For Backyard Keepers

You're welcome here, whatever your experience level. We genuinely love seeing people get their first flock right and we'll give you the same care and attention we'd give anyone. No jargon, no pressure, no making you feel like a beginner is a problem.

  • For Everyone

We stand behind what we sell. If you have questions after buying a bird, building a coop, or starting on our feed, we're here. The sale isn't the end of the conversation, it's usually the start of a good one.

The Conversation Starts Here.

Whether you have a question about our birds, want to talk through a coop build, or just want to know more, we'd love to hear from you.
